Director and Producer Mary Ann Braubach met Laura Huxley through her activist work and forged a friendship that evolved into this film.

She is currently producing “The Book of Jamaica”, an independent film based on the Russell Banks novel.  The Russell Banks novels the Sweet Hereafter and Affliction were both made into Academy Award nominated films. She co-produced Bruno Barreto’s “Four Days In September”; the Brazilian film was released by Miramax and nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign- language Film.

She was head of production for Tom Selleck’s company, TWS, during which time she produced the 1997 TNT Elmore Leonard western, “Last Stand at Saber River” and was the executive on the 1996 TNT film “Broken Trust” and the 1996 Showtime film “Ruby Jean & Joe.”

Prior to TWS Productions Ms. Braubach was Vice-President of Productions at Spring Creek Productions where she worked with such talent as Stephen Frears, Philip Noyce, Jim Harrison, and Sidney Pollack

Prior to Spring Creek, Ms. Braubach was the director of development for George Lucas at his Lucasfilm headquarters in Marin County.  During her tenure, “Willow,” “Tucker,” and “Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade” were produced. She developed “Radioland Murders” (1985) and was responsible for bringing together the talents for Mr. Lucas’ upcoming production “Red Tails.”

Prior to working with George Lucas Ms. Braubach was a film and television executive for London Films and for Lion’s Gate Studios. She produced Eva Gardos’s short film “Che’s Revenge” and worked on films at Orion, Fox, and at MGM, notably on George Cukor‘s last film, “Rich and Famous.”

Ms. Braubach began her career directing documentaries such as the critically acclaimed feature “A Great Bunch of Girls,” about the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and “Harriet,” about a woman’s struggle with breast cancer. She graduated from UCLA Film School where she studied with filmmaker Shirley Clarke.
